Adult Programs / MMT Basics

Build Your Base

MMT Basics is where every member starts, and where every fighter keeps coming back. This is where you fill your toolbox: fourteen strikes, four defenses, and the stance underneath all of it. 25 classes minimum to move up. No experience needed.

The path

Where you are, and what's next

Class 01

You start

Your first class on the floor. The count begins.

Classes 01–25

You build

Any Basics, All Levels or Women's class, any coach. They all count. Every session adds to your count and to your toolbox.

Class 25+

Talk To a Coach

At 25 you're eligible for Intermediate. Talk to a coach or the front desk, and a coach ranks you up.

Next

Intermediate

Now you learn how to use the tools: combinations, set ups, and sparring once you've put in the work there. And you keep coming to Basics.

You never graduate from the basics

MMT Basics is open to you forever. Twenty-five classes is the minimum before you move up, not a graduation date. You don't throw out your tools when you learn to use them.

Our advanced fighters still come. A cleaner jab, a harder check, a faster parry. The best strikers in the room keep sharpening their tools.

The standard

The tools in your toolbox

This is the whole list. Nothing hidden, nothing added later. Every one of them is a single strike, so any coach can call for any of them on the pads in any class. This is the floor every Mitten Muay Thai fighter stands on, from your first class to your hundredth.

Throw it clean, on command.

Defend

One answer for each. Same answer every time. Defending elbows and knees comes in Intermediate.

Straights — 1, 2→Parry
Hooks & uppercuts — 3, 4, 5, 6→Guard
Every kick — round, switch, low, inside→Check
Teeps, both sides→Hand sweep

Your coaches will show you more than one way to handle each of these. Learn them all. The answer above is the one that works when you have half a second to think.

Stance & footwork

Underneath everything else.

Balanced, weight ready
Hands up
On your toes, not flat
Chin down
Feet never cross

Class format

What an hour looks like

Every Basics class runs the same shape, so you always know what's coming. You sharpen the technique, then hit hard with it, then deal with it coming back at you.

01 · 10 min

Warm-up

Skipping, shadowboxing and stance work. Get on your toes and stay there.

02 · 15 min

Technical drilling

Slow it down. The coach sharpens a strike from the list and you drill it clean.

03 · 15 min

Power rounds

Pads, bags, whatever the day calls for. Take what you just drilled and put power behind it.

04 · 15 min

Defense

Your partner throws, you answer. It can get a little competitive, and that's the point.

05 · 5 min

Finish

Short conditioning to empty the tank, then check in on your count.

How it works

Common questions

Do I need any experience?

None. MMT Basics is built for people who have never thrown a punch.

Do I need to be in shape?

No. Come as you are. The conditioning comes from the training.

How do my classes get counted?

Check in at the front desk every time you train. Basics, All Levels and Women's classes all count. Ask any coach where you're at.

How long does 25 usually take?

Around eight to ten weeks at twice a week. Faster if you come more. There's no clock on it.

What if I miss a few weeks?

Nothing resets. Life happens. Your count is waiting for you when you come back.

I've trained somewhere before.

Talk to a coach. The basics still have to be there, but we won't pretend you're starting from nothing.

What happens at 25?

You're eligible for Intermediate. Talk to a coach or the front desk about ranking up. A coach makes the call, and tells you what to work on either way.

Do I have to stop taking Basics?

Never. It's our basics class, and it's open to every level for as long as you train here.

What should I bring?

Workout clothes and water. Gloves and shin guards are available to rent at the gym.

Can I train other classes too?

Yes, whatever your membership covers. Basics, All Levels and Women's classes count toward the 25.
